2004 … A place where Europe & Asia met & smiled
And then there was Peaberry & Galette, another brilliant coffee shop I was blessed to frequent during this year; one with a very cool house-jazz vibe (this was the first place I ever heard the music of St. Germain) and two extremely kind Japanese-American co-owners (who allowed me to practice the few Japanese phrases that remained to memory since living there back in 1985 – among them “Oishii desu!” or “This is delicious!”) …
“And then it comes to pass when nothing belongs to itself anymore. The trees are yours because you once looked at them. The streets are yours because you once traversed them. The coffee shops and bookshops, the cafés and bars, their sole owner becomes you. They gave themselves so willingly, surrendering to your presence. For you sang with the birds and they stopped to listen to you. You smiled at the sheepish stars and they fell willingly into your hair. The sun and moon, the sea and mountain, they have all left their homes to come to you. Indeed nothing – not even you – belongs to itself anymore. You once spoke to Him, and then the Divine became yours as well. In truth, he sits with us now during every sunrise, and silently plots how to make you ours.” ~ via Kamand Kojouri
