Day 149c: How to move a Mountain … (September 25, 2019)

The man who would – and will – move a mountain must ever begin by carrying away small stones … And so it is with pilgrims and pilgrimages – with the former only fulfilling the latter one small step at a time. Indeed, the deepest beauty of any Great Walk is in the walking thereof. For be they physical locations or ethereal ends, we are always betrayed by destinations – those mythical conclusions that ever distract us from the majesty in every moment … We would all do well to remember each day that Here is never a physical place at all. Rather, every single Here is an equal & complete embodiment of the entire Cosmos. And so it is that the pilgrim walks not upon a path, but rather the heavens – he breathes never an air of locality, but rather the winds of the world. There are so many things that divide us – race and culture and gender and nation and creed and appearance and species. And yet the pilgrim notices none of the same; seeing instead only the things that unite: suffering and smiles, hunger and humility, the beauty of each morning sun and the shelter-seeking summons of every storm-filled sky.” ~ inspired by Confucius, Gwyn Thomas & G. K. Chesterton
