Day 145c: Thirst surrounded by Water … (September 21, 2019)

This was a disturbingly odd morning to be sure, often walking alongside – and ever surrounded by – water, and yet nowhere able to get even a sip of the same for my growing thirst. First two police officers were drinking lazily as I panted on by, then a St. Jude’s Charity Run volunteer overflowing with water bottles denied me even a small sip from the same, and finally even the flagrantly water-laden security employees at the University of Tennessee basketball arena refused to even allow me to drink from their bathroom tap (much less the public water fountain just 10 feet past their checkpoint) – and all of them exuding an open & obvious air of disdain towards yours truly as I walked – now clearly wobbling – through their city …

Life is a regular confrontation with suffering, and love is the Soul’s desire to see that suffering lessened. And seeing as how this love is the foundation of all intimacy & the adhesive of all interconnection, it is also the bedrock of any vibrant & viable community. And as such, at least for all herd mammals, it is also the handmaid of Truth itself. Some have said that dialogue is the pathway to truth, and yet this is a blatant fallacy – a road that always ends in stagnation and even more suffering. For it is not what we say or how we say it that matters on the journey towards reverent relationship; it is what we do and why we choose to do it that offers the one and only key. Humility is not only the recognition that one does not know much at all for certain, but is additionally the understanding that without a heartfelt interaction with the Collective (and by Collective I mean the entirety of all sentient life on this and other planets) this life isn’t really worth living. And so it is that both our speech and our deeds must become more gentle, that true re-connection can take place. So that we can all learn about the other, and a greater truth can serve a greater Love – so that suffering might be lessened and Joy might be born anew, and that we can all then hand in hand stumble together – ever forward into the Kingdom of the Divine.” ~ unknown
