Day 140a: Goodness ever abounding … (September 16, 2019)
Sometimes in life we are encouraged to remember that it’s all about the little things. I had started this Walk in Germany, of course, and so it was logical that it was a German digital camera that I had brought with me – a German camera that had allowed me to take so many wonderful pictures of the Journey up to this point. Of course, it was also a German camera that needed to have its batteries recharged at regular intervals in order to keep capturing those same images, and so it was no small moment of consternation when I discovered on this particular morning that the camera’s 220V/120V adapter had been somehow permanently misplaced over the course of my last few days of adventuring. No matter, as it turned out, for it didn’t take long at all for me to saunter upon & into a local Wal-Mart superstore, where manager Chris heard about my plight and offered me a replacement adapter without even the slightest hint of hesitation.
“By acknowledging and accepting our ultimate commonality, we can naturally and voluntarily develop an attitude of compassion and benevolence towards other people, other sentient beings, and indeed all other life-forms. At our deepest core, we will want to live for the good of all … So we would all do well to remember that wherever we turn, we can find someone who needs our kindness. So even if it is a little thing, do something for which there is no pay but the privilege of doing it. Remember, you don’t live in a world all of your own. You share it equally with others – all others.” ~ inspired by Ilchi Lee & Albert Schweitzer
