Day 129i: Making it All an Odyssey … (September 05, 2019)
“Such were our minor preparations for the journey, and yet above all we laid in an ample stock of good-humor, and a genuine disposition to be grateful, and an intention to do all the good we could along the way. We were determined to travel in true contrabandista style; taking things as we found them, rough or smooth, and mingling with all classes and conditions equally in a flowing form of vagabond companionship. This is the true way to travel in Spain, and indeed the rest of the world as well … And once finally afoot, one wishes to go ever onward. On this great walking river one could glide forever and continually rediscover the deeper definitions of bliss and oneness and purpose and salvation. To walk in courageous humility is to journey from wonder to wonder, to steadily drift through eternity into ever-deeper & always changing grandeurs, to be repeatedly amazed by visions of beauty and expressions of kindness – each one surpassing the last. This is what it was to live as a pilgrim; to turn life each day into its own Homeric voyage.” ~ inspired by Washington Irving & Edward Abbey
