Unconventional Gestures (February 25th) …

February 25Unconventional Gesture: Invent a new hand gesture (e.g. for “maybe” or “yes” or “Great!”) — making it flowing, unusual and Respect-full. Be sure you know what it means and let that meaning further Joy or Happiness or Peace or Wonder. During the day, use the new gesture at least once per hour, only explaining it if asked to do so.

It has been shown in secular studies that over 80% of our person-to-person communications are effectuated by means other than our words – including tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and hand gestures. And it is the latter of these upon which today’s task focuses. Indeed, while it is remarkable to watch from afar as a talented hand-gesturer “speaks with his/her hands”, even those with a limited gesture vocabulary can communicate powerful thoughts with but a flick of their wrist.

Hand gestures come in all shapes …

… and some have even been given profound meanings.

Some are used to express fundamental disagreement …

… while others evidence harmony.

Some relay concern …

… while others evidence an unconditional acceptance.

Some evidence a patent dislike …

… while others communicate a high regard.

Of course, today’s task involves creating your own positive hand gesture, something I have often done in my past. Of all my gesture creations, one of my eprsonal favorites remains the “universal Trinity” sign, which looks like this:

Every time I show it to anyone (most often either as a greeting or a departing salutation – similar to how the peace sign is used by folks today), I am simultaneously recognizing their innate Divinity; their inherent “Trinity” of God external, Holy Spirit internal, and themselves. Admittedly, this union only manifests itself during acts of selfless Kindness, which are not always evident. And yet using this hand gesture reminds me to remember that this “Trinity” remains within every sentient being in every moment nonetheless.

See You when I see you …

and until then, Be Now!
