Day 092h: Pausing my Perseverance … (July 15, 2019)

I was feeling quite tired this morning for whatever reason (maybe the afore-written “Lethargy of Leon” that seems to afflict so many pilgrims here) so I stopped in a quiet little wayside park to drink some water and rest – reminding myself as I did so that it matters not how I am treated on this Walk, only that I continue to walk it; that it matters not whether I am in any way respected or cared for, only that I continue to show respect and offer caring on my way …

Be not daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief or ignorance. Do justly now, love mercy now, walk humbly now. We are not obligated to complete the Work – and nor are we mandated to complete it, and yet neither are we free to abandon it; neither are we free to ever cease … For one can’t quit working to better the world just because the world is old and callous and set in its ways. The enormity of a job is no reason not to persist in doing the job. Indeed, it is the enormity of the job that requires us to persist in its doing.” ~ inspired by Bridges McCall & Jon Hassler
