Day 071n … The Questions it ever Poses (June 24, 2019)

The landscape projects into us not like a jetty or peninsula, but instead like a kind of sunlight, flickeringly unmappable in its plays yet often quickening and illuminating as well. We are adept, if not also occasionally embarrassed, at saying what we make of certain places, and yet we are far less talented at announcing what particular places make of us. For some time now it has seemed to me that the two questions we should ask of any strong landscape are these: firstly, what do I deeply understand in this place that I do not fully know anywhere else? And secondly, what does this place know of me & my interconnection with others that I have yet to realize myself?” ~ inspired by Robert Macfarlane
