Day 070k: Two bodies, one Soul … (June 23, 2019)
I continue to walk along and the Sun comes out to play, turning what had been a cool and easy saunter into a plodding and thirsty affair. I unwittingly find myself slowing waaaaaaaaay down and limp-plod my way up the then-ascending forest path. Fatigue has settled heavy upon me as I simultaneously round a bend and crest a hill, arriving at my next unplanned destination: the lovely Cafe Elena in the one-shack “village” of Lamothe. I am the only pilgrim out in the heat at this time of day on this particular stretch of the Camino, and sit Joy-fully in the shade of the cafe’s outdoor pavilion. Dan, the cafe’s attendee that day, comes out and asks if I would like anything to eat or drink. I fluidly explain my Walk – both the how and the why – and he seemed more than a bit skeptical. He offers me some water from the tap and heads back inside, and I sit alone in peace and revel in the playful company of Black, the cafe’s resident canine …
