Day 068t: The glory in all things Grace-full … (June 21, 2019)
I make it without incident up into the center of town and all the way to the city’s primary church (a cathedral dedicated to Saint Gervais & saint Protais – twin brothers who were both martyred for their beliefs. They are both considered to be the patron saints of haymakers; and both are invoked upon the discovery of any thieves or thievery). It was quite late in the day when I arrived and I was quite exhausted at the time (having walked well over 35 kilometers over often extremely difficult terrain). Couple this state of physical fatigue with an open uncertainty as to where I would obtain shelter for the night (or if I would be offered any shelter at all) and things got a bit emotional when the two lovely church representatives working in the church foyer that evening heard the tale of my Walk and immediately offered me refuge in the nearby Presbetyre hostel (and this, even though said hostel was technically already closed for the night). Their kindness and Grace-full generosity was wholeheartedly received by yours truly – so purely in fact that I was inspired to take several moments to soak up the holy ambience of the church itself, and offer a sacred gift of a prayer of heartfelt gratitude in return …
“I truly believe we can either see life’s subtle interconnections and openly celebrate them by expressing gratitude for their blessings, or we can see life as a mere string of random independent coincidences that have no meaning or synchronicity. For me, I’m going to believe in the miraculous and boldly celebrate the same. I am going to see the sacred in the profane and the opportunity in every difficulty and raw power within every temptation. I am going to take whatever comes and do what I can for others therein, and have a humble faith therein my choices of generosity and kindness will create a positive ripple effect in the lives of others both near and far. This is my choice.” ~ inspired by Mike Ericksen
