Who are we to choose which ones sleep in our beds and which ones get sent to slaughter? Who are we to choose which ones get hugged and which ones get stabbed in the throat? Who are we to choose which ones are honored members of our family and which ones become slaves — abused in their childhood and ruthlessly murdered in their youth?

And this indeed is the ultimate paradox for all non-vegans: If we are truly better than the other animals, then we should act accordingly by treating them ALL with compassion and respect. And if we aren’t truly better than the other animals, then we have no right whatsoever to choose their fate — much less cause them to suffer.
