Day 064p: The Will of the greater Thy … (06/17/2019)
The soft Kindness I received from Christophe & Patrice in Labastide kept me going throughout the 6 long miles to the small town of Lascabanes, where I had thought I would be spending the night. It was, after all, getting relatively late and I was in truth already pretty exhausted. That said, the vibe in this tiny village was super “off” – with the pilgrims on hand telling me quite dismissively one after the other that the only hostel was already full, with there being not a single bench to be seen upon which I might rest, and with the local church containing not only a scowling priest but unsmiling congregation members to boot (that evening’s mass was about to start when I entered) … :O
No matter, I thought to myself. After all, the motto of this Walk – like the creed of any life fulfilled (see full-filled) must always be “Thy will, not mine”* … And so I smiled, shrugged my shoulders, and sauntered on into the waning day … 🙂
“Selflessness, Humility, and Resolve:
These are the three marks of a truly honorable man.”

*The “thy” in this utterance, for me at least, speaks to a far greater presence than any mere white-bearded, celestial regent looking down on us “from above.” No, for me “Thy will, not mine” is a simple reminder that we are all here (at least those of us who wish to live a truly Meaning-full life) to server rather than be served, to Give rather than to receive, and to Love rather than be loved. And so it is that whenever the far greater “Thy” of the Universe itself – the Cosmos as a whole, the status of the Earth, the situation of my surroundings, and the state of my own self – refuses to provide what I might desire for myself (or even what I might desire for others), the best response is to simply assume that what is happening is furthering a far greater Good than I can currently see. And then I simply choose to flow alongside this alternate and more inclusive intention while trying to do my best to enhance the harmony of any & all nearby … 🙂
