Day 48j: Remembering both Old & New … (06/01/2019)
I then came to this wonderful juxtaposition of the new with the old — the uber-modern homestead nestled into the mostly medieval French backcountry, and the worn-down ruins of a similar refuge just a few meters away; together serving as a potent reminder of a triad of Truths: 01) that the Earth will ever remain a far more potent power, 02) that time will take us all (no matter strong or influential we happen to be), and 03) that as such we have but our small handful of current days to Do whatever Good we can for any & all nearby — and that as such we should act accordingly with much verve and great bravery … 😉
“It is not desirable that we should live as in the constant atmosphere and presence of death, and yet it is well for us indeed to quite regularly remember death’s imminent hovering and to speak with death as friend talketh with friend. For it is brave forethinkings such as these that do no make us despondent or weak, but rather allow us to sink into each instant of life more deeply — with far greater moxie, and thus with far greater caring, and thus with far greater joy.” ~ inspired by Henry Ward Beecher
