Day 46f: Leading lovingly back to The Way … (05/30/2019)
I successfully headed into and through the villages of Goely and Buisson, before losing The Way completely just outside the outskirts of Maclans. It seems that some local “hooligans” ( fancy term for anyone who chooses to gain far too much amusement from others’ discomfort &/or at their expense) had intentionally removed a Camino waymarker at an important juncture of the path — leading me (and probably a few others before me) in the full-on wrong direction; a miscue that could have proved exceptionally costly to body and mind, were it not for the goodhearted elderly woman I encountered who insistently explained that I was lost, and then calmly explained the way back to The Way … 🙂
So I trudged back up the hill the way I had come, and did indeed rediscover the Camino at precisely the point where the aforementioned destroyed & discarded waymarker had only recently come in most handy. It seemed only Right to do my best to spare all subsequent travelers the stress of a similar misadventure, so I took more than a few moments to create a stone Waymarker of my own, before smiling heartily while walking onward … 😀
“To all fellow pilgrims: May the road rise easily to meet you. May the wind be ever gently at your back. May the sun shine warmly upon your face, and the rains fall smoothly upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you lovingly in the palms of His open and upturned hands.” ~ Irish Blessing
