Day 40m: Seeing them all as Pilgrims … (05/24/2019)
I traipse down into the quaint village of Gresin, where I choose to pause awhile; first in the local church and then its neighboring schoolhouse — with the former of which offering me a few dozen priceless moments of cool solace, and the latter of which (via schoolteacher Michel) gifting me a few dozen blank sheets of paper (for my pilgrim’s journal) … 🙂
“Pilgrimage is a sacred traveling — either to a sacred place &/or in a sacred manner, and as such a pilgrim is one who chooses to walk in according reverence (whether in route or form). As such it feels somewhere pleasant – if not even proud – to state that I am a pilgrim. And yet looking at it all objectively – whether counting the swirl of white while the devout slowly move around the sacred stone, or dipping my head in prayer while drinking from the holy well, or screaming in loud jubilation while dancing around the flames, or merely sitting and listening to the old men sitting on benches by the sea and reporting the steady ubiquitousness of change, I am left to pause and wonder: If I am indeed a pilgrim, who amongst all my life’s co-travelers isn’t?” ~ inspired by Claire North
