Day 39d: Walking through all these things … (05/23/2019)

“Walking, by virtue of having the Earth’s support, feeling its gravity, resting on it with every step, is very like a continuous inhalation of energy. And yet the Earth’s force is not transmitted only in the manner of a radiation climbing through the legs. It is also given through the coincidence of circulations; with walking as flowing movement, where the heart beats more solidly and the blood circulates more powerfully than when the body is at rest. And the Earth’s rhythms draw that walking along, they each are cyclical & rhythmic and they each echo and respond to each other. Landscapes summon the walker and make him feel at home: the hills, the colors, the rivers, and the trees all confirm it. The charm of a twisting path through glens and valleys, the beauty of vine fields in autumn and flowered meadows in spring, the silvery glitter of birch trees against a defining summer sky, the immensity of perfectly sliced mountaintops against a glimmering horizon … All these things support us. All these things transport us. And — whenever we use them to enliven deeds that are greater than ourselves — all these things nourish us.” ~ inspired by Frédéric Gros
