Day 26d: a most Grace-full Gengis … (05/10/2019)

I head onwards towards Payern and am approaching the outskirts of town when a local resident — a nice young man named Gengis — sees me limping along and calls out to me from across the street, asking what I’m up to and wondering if I need any assistance. He hears the abbreviated tale of my Walk, is amazed thereby, immediately warns me of all the “bad people” in Payern who will inevitably take advantage of me, is openly shocked by my response to the same (namely, that it is precisely life’s “bad people” who need our kindness the most, and as such it is precisely such folks to whom I have chosen to give my own kindness most willingly), and finally accompanies me back aways along the path to his home — where he introduces me to his dog & his girlfriend, gives me some wonderfully delicious sustenance* for my Journey, and then kindly sends me back out onto The Way … 😀

“Yes, it is true that you are just as good as anyone else, and yet it is just as true that you are no better than anybody else either … With that in mind, it is crucial to continually remember the following: It is only what we learn after we ‘know it all’ that is truly important, and it is only what we do for others with that newer knowledge that truly counts.” ~ unknown

*Avocados proved to be the second-most-prized foodstuff I received during my entire Walk; topped only in both rarity and appreciation by vegan chocolate … 😉
