August 15 … Cleansing our Conversations
So many of our sentences are laced with the poisons of ignorant personal opinion &/or negative “judgmentalism.” With that in mind, go the entire day today without giving a personal opinion of any kind. Lend no advice, offer no analysis, state no critique, make no comparison, proffer no judgment, and elucidate no discernment. If you happen to slip up, no problem. Simply repeat the sentence in which you stated your “certainty” and qualify it into neutrality (e.g. “Come to think of it, I’m not sure that last sentence is true.”). Better yet, go ahead and alter those slip-ups and make them humble statements of “probable positivity” (e.g. “You know, on second thought, it’s just as likely that ___________”) …
