Loving the Neighbor … (01/01/17)
NOTE: Here Jesus clearly commanded us to “Love our neighbor” — and yet many do not realize that he defined “neighbor” (only once in the entire New Testament) in the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-37); a parable that has him defining our “neighbor” as our “enemy.” The hero of the parable of the Good Samaritan was — of course — a Samaritan; one of the primary cultural enemies of the Jews at that time. And this Samaritan was a hero because he showed “mercy” — something we can all only do to another after they have wronged us.
