Pages 138-139 … Love as blasphemy
Scaughdt: I have a sincere request for information … It seems that we got so caught up in other topics that no one answered my fourth question (see page 125), and it is a question where I truly don’t have much personal knowledge and would sincerely like to hear a few thoughts …
So, it seems to me that Lucy & Bart & Diana (and to a degree Dan) are all saying that homosexuality (or homosexual intercourse at the very least) is an extra-mortal sin. As such, it also seems to me that it would therefore logically be blasphemous for a Christian to openly proclaim that this is not the case. And thus it also seems that to me that Leviticus 19:12, Leviticus 22:32 & Leviticus 24:16 might all apply in such situations (especially if the ones in question openly claim to pardon &/or sanction homosexual sex in Jesus’ name – which many progressive Christians do). So, that all having been said, I wonder what the eternal consequences of such a repetitive violation of the Law would be … Can anyone clarify this for me?
Lucy: No one has the right to pardon sin and say that it is OK, not even professed Christians … Only Jesus can wash away sin! … “To call oneself an authentic Christian and say God condones the sexual act is to go against the teaching of God’s Word, and I would have to question whether or not they are truly Christian, or merely misguided … A practicing homosexual is in direct contradiction of Biblical teaching and living contrary to the ‘abundant life’ promised by Jesus … Practicing homosexuality is most definitely sinful and contradictive of biblical teaching on God’s order for human relationships and family” … “[Homosexuals] aren’t choosing to be attracted to the same sex, but, like the rest of us, they have a sinful heart that is filled with distorted, evil desires. They are choosing to act out on those sinful desires rather than trusting in Jesus – just like we used to before we knew Jesus. What gay men and women need is not to make a choice to become straight, but to make a choice to come to Christ for forgiveness of sins, and a new heart that loves God and hates sin.”
Scaughdt: Hmmm … So I guess this means that all Presbyterians are now “misguided Christians” in your eyes (or even no longer Christians at all) – seeing has how they choose to accept homosexuals into their church, right? That doesn’t sound very humble of you, Lucy, and it sure as Hell (pun intended) doesn’t sound like the teachings of Jesus Christ. After all, if what you say is true, and “no one has the right to pardon sin”, then it seem logical that no one has the right to judge sin either … Indeed, isn’t that the Wisdom behind, “Vengeance is mine, saieth the Lord” as read in Deuteronomy 32:35? Would you care to clarify this theological contradiction, my Friend?
P.S. By the way, assuming that by “practicing homosexuality” you mean the act of homosexual intercourse prohibited by Leviticus 18:22 & Leviticus 20:13 (seeing as how we have agreed already that homosexuality itself is not a sin – at least according to the Bible) – again, how does this prohibition relate to Presbyterians (and the other more gay-accepting Christian congregations who now comprise roughly 60% of the current Christian population) who allow two non-lusting gays to attend their church – or to get married therein – or even to preach Jesus’ message from the pulpit?
P.P.S. Also, seeing as how your last paragraph applies just as readily to heterosexual Christians like yourself as it does to homosexual Christians, why are you & Bart talking about gay people at all? Don’t you have enough to worry about with regards to your own sins & your own failings? (see Matthew 7:1-5+ Matthew 23:25-26 + John 8:7 + Matthew 18:3-4 et al) … Why are you not spending your time pulling the beams from your own eyes and Loving God by Loving others (see John 13:34-35 + Matthew 5:44-48 + Matthew 22:37-40 – the Commandment of all Commandments), instead of using your time to openly chastise homosexuals and their “sinful lifestyle”? Indeed, how are homosexual sins any worse than your own – and how can you make an exception to Matthew 7:1-2 in their case (and publicly condemn their “lifestyle” – and their way of living – and their way of Loving) while not mentioning your own obvious failings (e.g. arrogance & bigotry, at the very least)? … Please explain how this is not blatant hypocrisy on your part, my Friend!
