Farewell Stuttgart! … (08/20/10)

What a Wonder-full journey!  I received a gift to travel to Germany for the last five weeks and visit friends & family.  While there, I was not only able to visit wit my son for four straight weeks (Heaven! — with each of us providing one of the greatest acts of selfless service possible:  courageous and open Love, from parent to child & from child to parent), I was also able to spend significant time caring for (and being inspired by) a Friend experiencing the mid-to-late stages of Alzheimer’s disease.  I was admittedly a bit nervous about this opportunity at first, and yet immediately fell into an easy flow of simply caring for him in the Here&Now; seeing every moment as an opportunity to extend him unconventional acceptance and kindness (whether he repeated himself 100 times or not; whether he even recognized me or not).  I learned so much from him about what it means to  appreciate life.  It was a truly humbling experience, and I will be forever grateful to have had the privilege to Love him and learn from him in this way.
