Pages 409-410 … What Jesus didn’t say
“Jesus is never quoted in the New Testament as having directly addressed rape, incest, domestic violence or homosexual behavior. So are we supposed to believe all these practices are okay with him?”
Lucy, do you actually need me to answer this question? Seriously?!? … Of course you don’t! And yet I will anyway … In essence, Jesus would quite clearly denounce the behaviors that you mention that cause harm to others and create innocent victims – namely rape, incest and domestic violence. And Jesus would quite definitely and most unconditionally support the innate conditions of others that do not harm anyone and do not create innocent victims – like homosexuality (or being female, or being black, or being a Jew etc etc). Indeed, any other manifestation of Jesus would not only be immoral, but hypocritical as well. And we all know how much Jesus couldn’t stand hypocrisy (see Matthew 23) …
Also, Jesus is never quoted directly about animal cruelty or genocide or slavery, Lucy … And all of these practices are either indirectly or directly supported by the Old Testament and its mostly dysfunctional “God” … So are you telling me that Jesus championed these blatantly evil practices as well, merely because they weren’t directly mentioned by him in the Gospels? Of course he didn’t! To say otherwise is to significantly tarnish his divinity and remake him in our human society’s most-sinful image.
And what about publicly condemning the sins of others, Lucy? Jesus never mentioned anything about that either —- Wait a minute … He was quoted about that wasn’t he? Yes, he was quoted about that topic quite a bit, actually. Let’s see – what did he say again? ………
Oh yes – he said THIS:
“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged … Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own? … You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your neighbor’s.” ~ Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:1-2)
… and he said THIS:
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this young child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” ~ Jesus Christ (Matthew 18:3-4)
… and he said THIS:
“All who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted” ~ Jesus Christ (Luke 18:14)
… and he said THIS:
“Let [she] who is without sin cast the first stone.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 8:7)
… and he said THIS:
“You hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup [of others], but inside are full of greed and self-indulgence … First clean the inside of your own cup, so that the outside may also then become truly clean.” ~ Jesus Christ (Matthew 23:25-26)
P.S. My dear Friend, it is a flagrant example of your bigoted discrimination against homosexuals that you would equate homosexuality (an innate state of being that is often an expression of Love and that in & of itself has no victims) with rape & incest & domestic violence (all purposeful acts of violence against unwilling others that physically harm &/or emotionally maim them) … It’s really quite ignorant of you, actually, and really quite repugnant as well – though I realize it is not completely your fault that you have such unjust & calloused beliefs about gays; that you were probably indoctrinated into those beliefs at a very young age. Still, you are no longer an adolescent, my Friend, and the adolescent beliefs to which you cling today are 100% your responsibility.
“Be perfect [in LOVE] therefore, just as [the LOVE] of your Father in Heaven is perfect … There is no fear in Love, but perfect Love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in Love … Be merciful, just as your heavenly Father is merciful.” ~ Matthew 5:48 + 1 John 4:18 + Luke 6:36
Bart: God’s love is pure (unlike ours), which allows the flesh to define His love as if it will make the flesh perfect … P.S. Will you please stop with the name-calling? It’s beginning to sound a little childish. No one has judged or condemned anyone here, and if so … PROVE IT!
Scaughdt: Bart, again – I am not calling you or Lucy “bigots” per se; I am merely pointing out the simple fact that your discriminatory beliefs about homosexuality (and your adoration of a God who also drastically discriminates against them) most definitely is bigoted … In fact, your arguments against homosexuality as a “lifestyle” – often equating it morally with pedophilia or rape (along with your praise of a God who would evilly – or at the very least callously – allow homosexuals to burn forever just for being who they are) is one of the purest example of bigotry I could hope to find (though I never hope to find any).
Of course, as you yourself just said, “God’s love is pure (unlike yours)”, which is exactly what I have been saying all along – namely, that the “perfect”, unblemished & unconditional LOVE of Jesus’ celestial Father is quite easy to find in the Bible (If you want to find it, best to start your seeking in Matthew chapter 5), and that every Christian (including you & yours) is forever allowed to choose to worship HIM instead of His Old Testament, Revelation-based, wrathful, petty, judgmental, “bad cop” heavenly cousin …
