Page 415 … those adulterous thoughts
Next you cite Matthew 5:28 to note that, “[Jesus] warned people that not only the act of adultery was wrong, but that even adulterous thoughts were.”
Oh my goodness, Lucy – YES! This is exactly the example I have been using in this very thread to try and illuminate the hypocrisy (and indeed the bigotry) of you singling out the “mortal sin” of homosexual lust while fully ignoring the many, far more prevalent mortal sins (like adultery) that infest almost every Christian home & that infect almost every Christian pulpit.
Remember, my Friend, not only did Jesus make fantasizing/lusting over a non-marital partner into adultery, but Deuteronomy 22:22 made adultery a mortal sin, meaning that every biblical literalist like yourself who fantasizes about anyone other than his or her marital partner becomes a “mortal sinner” – a sinner on par with those committing the sin of homosexual sex mentioned in Leviticus 8:22 & Leviticus 20:13! … As such, it is extremely safe to say that there are literally millions more people violating this particular sin than there a gay men & women lusting for each other … So why ignore this sin on your Facebook feed, my Friend? Why discriminate against gays by focusing on them? … Bigotry perhaps?
And the magnitude of your discrimination doesn’t stop there … There are actually dozens of other mortal sins in the Bible (some of which probably also pertaining to you & yours) and to focus your thoughts or words on condemning any one of them above any of the others is both hypocritical & bigoted – and most certainly does not reflect the humble, Loving Way of your own Lord & Savior (see Matthew 18:3-4 + John 13:15-17 + John 13:34-35 et al) …
And so I ask you, my Friend: Why aren’t you condemning fortune tellers as well (Leviticus 20:27)? – or disrespectful children (Leviticus 20:19)? – or those who disobey their pastors (Deuteronomy 17:12)? – or those who worship a different God than your own (Exodus 22:20)? – or those who blaspheme the name of the Lord (Leviticus 24:10-16)? – or those who work on Saturdays (Exodus 31:12-15)? For these “sins” and their “sinners” are actually all far more prevalent than homosexuality is, and they are all just as “abominable” as gay sex in the eyes of your God. So why focus on homosexuals, Lucy?
A possible Answer: You were raised to be prejudiced against them and are uncomfortable around them – even subconsciously fearful of them. And your resultant disproportionate discrimination against them is a perfect example of a resultant bigotry; a kind of unjust intolerance that is definitely not supported by the all-Loving Father of Jesus Christ.
