Page 564 … the Importance of the Cross
“The most important thing about Jesus was the Cross, which you don’t believe in!”
First of all, my dear, if by “the Cross” you mean Paul’s idea that we must worship Jesus as though he were God Himself, then I think it best to let Jesus himself do the responding:
“Why do you call me Good? No one is Good but God alone … I do not accept glory from others … If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me.” ~ Jesus Christ (Mark 10:18 + John 5:41 + John 8:54)
Of course, it is far more important to note that I most certainly do believe in the Cross – I simply believe in it the way Jesus wanted us all to believe in it; namely, as a symbolic representation of his Way – the way we are all to live our lives; as a joyful sacrifice for the benefit of others; as a symbolic call to humbly & actively emulate the Life of Christ!
“And my Father is glorified by this: That you bear much fruit and become my disciples … And by this will everyone know that you are my disciples: when you show Love towards one another … Not everyone who merely says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who DOES the will of my Father in Heaven … If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me … If you understand these things, blessed are you while you do them.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 15:8 + John 13:35 + Matthew 7:21 + Matthew 16:24 + John 13:17)
