How to “have” turkey this Thanksgiving … enJoy! (and please emulate)

b1

“There is no way to humanely kill an animal that wants to live, and those turkeys wanted to live. That is the most haunting aspect of all. The sight of their thudding chests, their futile attempts to escape, but most of all the questioning in their eyes. ‘Why me?’ They seemed to be imploring …

Why them? Because they are powerless – they are powerless and we have been indoctrinated to believe that it is acceptable to kill them simply because we want to and we can. It’s barbarism at its finest — “might makes right” alive and well in the 21st Century.

Indeed, that is what it all comes down to. We humans can do anything we want to turkeys (and cows, and pigs, and chickens, and fish) because there is absolutely nothing they can do to stop us. And that, right there, is the common thread that links all forms of oppression — the common thread that conjoins all expressions of cruelty and all perpetrations of injustice: wielding power over those who are weaker and cannot challenge their exploitation.”
