On October 31st, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon made the following Truth-full statement: “The continuing violence is a clear indication that a political solution to the conflict in Syria is desperately needed. The fighting must stop now. There is no military solution to the crisis, not in Syria or anywhere else. From Afghanistan to the Central African Republic, from Ukraine to Yemen, combatants and those who control them are defying humanity’s most basic rules.”

And this bold & true statement was followed by Red Cross President Peter Mauer, who said: “When humanitarian law and principles are disregarded, when humanitarian needs are trumped by political agendas, when access to the wounded and sick is denied, and when security concerns lead to a suspension of operations, people are abandoned, the notion of protection loses its meaning, and humanity is flouted. We ask that states reaffirm our shared humanity by concrete action and uphold their responsibility to respect and ensure respect for international humanitarian law.”

And what was Obama’s (embarrassingly predictable) response just a few days later? To violate his promise (surprise, surprise) of “no boots on the ground” by sending a group of U.S. special operations forces into combat in Syria. It took a little longer than he originally planned, but it looks like America’s wicked little “leader” is going to get his next war after all … Disgusting and vile, this is — almost as disgusting and almost as vile as the evil (and completely counterproductive) Drone War he has been instigating & perpetuating in the Middle East for the past seven years.

I would say that I am thankful that he only has one more year left in office, and yet to say such a thing belies two vert distributing Truths: he still has a full year to do LOTS more damage to justice & morality & decency both in his own country and around the world, and the President who will follow him will either be a lame duck (Bernie) who is powerless to stop the U.S. military juggernaut that will stop at nothing to preserve its power & its profits, a fascist who openly supports that juggernaut (every single current Republican candidate for President), or a double-talking Democrat who is pseudo-secretly just as despicable when it comes to supporting illegitimate military “solutions” to international problems (Hillary).

But who is truly to blame for this mess? Who has the power to pull the plug on this madness, and yet still refuses to do so? YOU, my Friends … YOU are the ones who will have to stop this insanity if it ever is to stop at all. You won’t be able to stop it with your vote, of course … Your political system has been trashed beyond repair by greed & corruption. And yet you CAN stop it by joining your neighbors and raising your voice, and you CAN stop it by taking away the one thing that your “leaders” cherish above all else: the feeling that you care what they think. Politicians love your money — so stop giving it to them. Politicians love attention — s stop giving it to them. Indeed, politicians love feeling powerful; love feeling like you are beholden to their “wisdom” and their “leadership” — so make sure that they know that you don’t need either. make sure they know that you actually reject every notion of allegiance to anything they have to offer … Make sure they know that, even though they have hopelessly commandeered your country, they will never commandeer you life.
