Misaleading Myth #26 … “But we created domesticated animals in the first place” (08/28/14)
Seriously?!? You actually mean that all the cows, pigs and chickens that we developed over the past several centuries are now our personal property — are now ours to use and abuse as we see fit? You actually mean that purposefully breeding an animal makes it a slave to its breeder as soon as it is born? You actually mean that the many years of forced enslavement and manipulated breeding of unwilling animals means that the present-day progeny of those arrogant misdeeds are rightfully subject to imprisonment, pain, suffering and murder?
Fair enough … But if this patently immoral rule of “law” applies to cows and pigs and chickens, then it is must equally apply to our dogs and our cats and our horses. Come to think of it — if we are going to be consistent — it must especially apply to our own children as well.
Think about it … and then remember:
Wisdom is not the blind following of unjust & yet still-popular traditions …
Wisdom is having the courage & the insight to transcend them.
Amen … Let it be so.
“It were much better that a sentient being should never have existed, than that it should have existed only to endure unmitigated misery.” ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
