Hero #125: Stevie Wonder … (01/29/16)

Born Stevland Hardaway Morris in May of 1950, Stevie Wonder is an American singer-songwriter who has become one of the most creative and loved musical performers of the late 20th century. Blind since shortly after his birth, Wonder signed with Motown’s Tamla label at the age of eleven and continues to perform and record for Motown as of the early 2010s. Just as importantly (if not more so), he is also noted for his work as an activist for political causes, including his 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday a national holiday in the United States. In 2009, Wonder was also named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.

“Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn’t mean he lacks vision … What I’m not confused about is the world needing much more Love; no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry … more unity, more peace and more understanding … Period.” ~ Stevie Wonder
