Misleading Myth #04 … “But we humans are natural omnivores” (07/01/14)
To keep it simple: NO … WE … ARE … NOT!
(which explains why meat-eaters live noticeably shorter lives than vegans, and why meat-eaters suffer dramatically higher incidences of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke and osteoporosis)
(P.S. and even IF we were natural omnivores, a plant-based diet is still a thoroughly healthy & completely cruelty-free alternative for us — so why wouldn’t we choose it?)
And for those who believe that “the goal, like everything else, is balance”, I would remind them that most of humanity no longer thinks that “balance” applies to slavery, torture, rape or murder.
*Would it be rape to them if a stranger were to stick his hand into the anus of their dog? Of course it would be! … And is it then equally rape when the dairy farmer shoves his entire arm into the rectum of the constrained (and definitely unwilling) female cow in order to get her pregnant? You better believe it is!
*And would it be kidnapping if a stranger were to take their dog’s newborn puppies (despite their mother’s loud protests) and lock them up in tiny pens where they could hardly move for the first several months of their lives? Of course it would be! … So is it then equally kidnapping when the dairy farmer pulls the newborn calf away from its bemoaning mother and locks it into a veal crate for the first several months of its life (before then sending it to slaughter, I might add)? You better believe it is!
*And would it be murder if a stranger confined their dog in a knock box, shot it in the head with a bolt gun (POSSIBLY rendering it fully unconscious), hung it up by its hind legs, and slit its throat? Of course it would be! … And so is it therefore also murder when the same is done to cows & pigs & chickens on farms large & small all over their home continent?
YES … IT … IS!
Folks can continue to eat meat if they wish — I make no judgments against them as people for doing so … AND I will most certainly call each & every one of them out on their immoral & irresponsible choice to consume animals. If others are going to dramatically damage their own health thereby, so be it … That is their right. AND YET it is NOT their right to eliminate the rights of other caring, sentient being(s) in the process.
