What would Jesus NOT do? … (08/25/13)

Seems like everywhere I go, I find folks trying to use the Bible to “prove” that their current way of living is acceptable in the eyes of God — to justify their own sins of callousness & cruelty, and to affirm their own condemnatory judgments of the sins of others.

It’s sad, really, as the Bible also contains so much that is patently GOOD — so many verses that support a LOVE that is unconditional and an Acceptance of others that knows no limits; so many passages that champion a God who is anything but dysfunctional, and that evidence a Jesus who is anything but petty.

In this vein, I offer a fresh guideline for those who would rather use the Bible as a weapon of negativity and arrogance — I offer the chance to step back and simply ask the humble question “What would Jesus NOT do?”

May we have all have the humility of a child to open our hearts to these Truths, and the courage of the Soul to go forth and make them real.

Amen

P.S. by the way, another thing Jesus would never do: kill an animal … just sayin’

“And [Jesus] said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately, THEY LEFT THEIR NETS and followed Him.” ~ Matthew 4:19-20

“Are not even two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.” ~ Jesus (Matthew 10:29)

“I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” ~ Jesus (Matthew 9:13)
