Beating back the fear … (04/21/13)

Don’t get me wrong, my Friends … It is more than reasonable to be afraid these days — very afraid.

*You cherish health, and yet your medical system profits from your continued illness — prescribing medicines that give more negative side effects than they do relief.

*You cherish freedom, and yet your government has erased many of your Constitutional liberties, and is just a few additional domestic “acts of terror” from shackling you with martial law.

*You cherish the “right to know”, and yet your mass media refuses to tell you the Truth — dramatizing the fearful while burying the uplifting.

*You cherish your spirituality, and yet your churches are mired in the pungent stink of greed, deceit and hypocrisy.

*And you cherish safety, and yet the threat of terrorism has now invaded your own country — indeed your own home; indeed your own mind — once again.

The things we Love the most are being steadily pulled from our grasp, and there seems to be nothing we can do about it.

AND YET, just because it is reasonable to be afraid doesn’t mean that we are required to submit to our fear …

Just because it is understandable to be enraged at the state of the world (or our country, or our neighborhood, or our own lives) doesn’t mean we are required to act on that rage …

Just because it is reasonable to believe that we are “only human” or that one person can’t make a difference or that things are “beyond our control” doesn’t mean that we are required to sit at home and mope about how things could be.

Yes, there are people engaging in “evil” activities — deeds designed to make us cower in fear or lash out in anger or loll about in morose complacency.

AND YET … WE are the ones who choose how we respond to these times.

*Instead of whining about the inaccessibility of quality health care, YOU CAN resolve most of your own maladies by drinking water instead of soda, getting good sleep, and becoming vegetarian.

*Instead of looking for a politician who is brave enough to rescind the Patriot Act and return your freedom to you, YOU CAN can remove yourself from the political arena entirely and use that currently wasted energy on rebuilding your own community — on being the change you wish to see.

*Instead of zoning out while the nightly news fills your heads with melodramatic garbage & negative propaganda, YOU CAN turn off your television, go out into your neighborhoods, and remind yourself firsthand how Good people are — ALL of them — by acting accordingly.

*Instead of giving your time & your money to a corrupt church and worshiping a God of callous judgment, YOU CAN leave that hypocrisy behind and make “worship” a verb — going bravely forth into your community as an active agent of Divine LOVE.

*And instead of desiring revenge upon “the terrorist” or meting out “justice” upon our transgressors, YOU CAN respond to all violent misdeeds with the true Courage of sincere & stalwart Forgiveness.

It is time, my Friends … It is high-time for us to stop complaining about what is broken in our society and start repairing it ourselves; time to stop coming together in indignant anger and start reunifying our lives with Kindness.

Hopelessness is fear and fear is weakness …
Arrogance is fear and fear is weakness …
Anger is fear and fear is weakness …

LOVE is a verb and LOVE is strength.

Be Strong, my Friends.
