Day 089g: Another religious rejection … (July 12, 2019)
I found myself deeply admiring the architecture of (& radiating calm flowing from) the large cathedral across from the cafe where I was resting, and so I decided to enter the same and spend some time there before leaving town. Unfortunately, the societal malaise that is the cousined partnership of capitalism & Christianity kept me (and all moneyless pilgrims like me) from entering. And so it was another “Oh well” and another shrug of the shoulders that set me on The Way once more that still-glorious morning …

“We humans must never underestimate our power to admit our penchant for error when talking about God – or when thinking about God, or even when imagining God. Whether in our prose or our poetry or our preaching, it is crucial to honor a more honest orthodoxy founded in a more humble dogma. A gently generous religion, in stark contrast to the tense, narrow, or controlling orthodoxies of so much of Christian history, never takes itself too seriously. It is humble to the core; never claiming too much and certainly never condemning others. It admits it – like the rest of humanity – always walks with a limp, and as such it always remembers to be kind to all strangers and generous to the poor.” ~ inspired by Brian D. McLaren
