Day 087r: Many saints unasundered … (July 10, 2019)

More evidence that the church in Hontanaas was indeed a truly Holy Place was found in this placard that was hung large & bold upon its northern wall – a placard that honored not only the Christianity-affiliated saints of Mother Teresa*, Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther, St. Francis of Assisi, Martin Luther King Jr, and Brother Roger, but also a few of their non-Christian counterparts in the forms of Mahatma Gandhi, Malala, Iqbal, Irena Sendler & Ba Fangli …

I guess if I had to pick a spiritual figurehead to possess the lone deed to the entirety of Earth, I’d go with either Buddha or Jesus, but only because neither would ever allow himself to want (much less accept) the same.” ~ via Sarah Vowell

If, in your attempt to supposedly follow Jesus, you exclude or condemn or discriminate against anyone else, then you are quite flagrantly doing it wrong.” ~ via Kellen Roggenbuck

*In my humble opinion, I err on the side of agreeing with the words of Christopher Hitchens on the matter of Mother Teresa; words that resoundingly & quite thoroughly exposed that woman as being both a fraud & a hypocrite (not only sidling up to the side of torturous tyrants, but also intentionally refusing to alleviate many of the acute sufferings of the poor in her charge – sufferings she was well-equipped to mitigate). Whether this makes her unworthy of being included in this particular pantheon is not mine to judge or demand, and yet I personally would never openly associate her with any of the others honored here.
