Day 086f: The common longing for comfort … (July 09, 2019)
This roadside mural (which I remember being present here as well back in 2008) makes a common challenge all too clear – how are we to ensconce ourselves in the wonders of life’s more difficult (and more common) moments, when ever tempted to long for times past that were more cozy (and therefore innately less meaningful)? The answer? Return to the moment, by diving headfirst (ie caringly) into the lives of those nearby …

“Might your safest space be ever this: a space safe from having to wear your armor; a space safe from having to repress or ignore or deny your pain; a space safe from the insidious, love-killing myths of ‘self love’ and ‘healthy boundaries’ and a ‘balance of give & take’; a space safe to feel fully, disagree wholeheartedly, and then love anyway; a space safe from needing to sit in the castrating comfort of black vs white extremism; a space safe to reach out to another traveler, and them know they are not alone.” ~ inspired by Shellen Lubin
