Day 085c: By a Belief more Beauty-full … (July 08, 2019)

A smaller group of us fluidly made it to the town of Redicilla del Camino, where most stopped at a wayside cafe for more typical refreshment, while I entered the nearby church for Refreshment of a different sort …

I believe that the currently known Universe came into being around 14 billion years ago and that we humans evolved from apelike ancestors over the past few million years. I believe we are more likely to live a good life if all of us try to work together in a world community to care for our natural surroundings and thereby preserve planet earth. When decisions for groups of my fellow humans are made in this world, I believe that a truly democratic process should always be used. To protect the individual, I believe in freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, freedom from religion, freedom of inquiry, a wall of separation between church and state, and an even greater wall between state and individual. When making decisions about what is right or wrong, I believe I should use my ability to reason about the likely consequences of my actions as they might or might not affect others. I believe that I should try to increase the happiness of everyone by caring for other people and finding ways to cooperate and encourage and be kind. Never should my actions discriminate against people simply because of their race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or political inclinations. I believe that ideas about what is right or wrong will change with enhanced education, so I am prepared to continually question ideas using evidence offered from both personal experience and reviewed science. I understand that there is no moral difference between any sentient member of any sentient species – man or dog or whale, pig or chicken or cow – and I believe we should all choose to act (and eat) accordingly. I will use these beliefs to guide my thinking and my actions unless I am provided with good reasons for revising them or replacing them with other beliefs that are more respectful &/or just &/or peaceful – and as such, more valid.” ~ inspired by Ronald P.
