Day 083v: Showered again with Love … (July 06, 2019)
It was pretty clear to Julio that I wasn’t doing so well physically (more due to my handful of leg & hip injuries than my equally noticeable fatigue), so he graciously chose to send his friends ahead and slowly walk with me the rest of the way into Najera proper – where he then guided me into the first hostel* we saw, where he then paid for my night’s stay there, and where he then gave me the rest of his Ibuprofen pills before heading on along his own pilgrim’s way (!!!) … To make matters even more wondrous, Jose (the low-key, super-kind, & uber-cool heavy metal proprietor of the same said refuge) told me that I could essentially have the run of the place, and showed me the food that had been left behind by pilgrims previous. It wasn’t much, and yet after a fine warm shower, I gratefully partook of the remaining pasta and even drank a leftover beer …

“Those who can humbly & sincerely receive bread from a stranger while smile in silent gratitude, are the ones who feed many a far more substantive bread. And those who can sit in silent acceptance with their fellow man – not knowing what to say but knowing that they should indeed be there, are the ones who bring new life to wounded hearts.” ~ inspired by Henri Nouwen
