Day 090o: Reunion with Rebekah … (July 13, 2019)
And then I was there, at the very doorstep of The Peaceable Kingdom*, that glowingly warm donativo where Rebekah Scott had just as warmly greeted me those 11 years ago; bringing me in from a Camino chilled of wind & kindness – a Camino that had wrung me out and sent me stumbling along its dusty undulations. At least as far as my memory served, the place had changed little over the ensuing decade, and Rebekah Scott had changed little as well – greeting me just as warmly as before and offering me shelter for the night, even though I had happened to arrive on her & her husband’s wedding anniversary. Of course, I noted that I hadn’t stopped by to receive any gifts from her & Paddy, but only to see her face-to-face one more time and tell her thank you once more for the kindness she had shown me back in ’08. I truly only wanted to give her the Peace Stone gifts that I had been carrying with me for many miles prior, and would gladly head back out onto The Way, seeing as how she and Paddy had dinner plans that night and would not be present for much of the evening. She would have none of it, of course, and humbly opened her residence to me just as she had done those many years before …

“Real pilgrims take the good with the bad, they accept whatever the trail throws at them. They’re respectful, they carry their necessities and not an ounce more. They keep it simple, they rarely opt for the easy or posh alternative. Be it rain or blisters or exhaustion or blinding heat, these walkers keep on walking. They’re vagabonds with a peculiar respectability, and a profound caring for others and life itself.” ~ via Rebekah Scott
“We are not overtly religious, but we are motivated by grace – a Biblical ideal and a living truth – that unconditional love can change the human heart and save a fallen world. We believe the Camino de Santiago is a holy place, and we uphold the traditions of hospitality, generosity, and gracious giving that make this Way unique in the world.” ~ via Rebekah Scott & Paddy O-Gara
