Day 089t: Into the looming Night … (July 12, 2019)

I knew it was over 10km (just over 6 miles) to the next donativo (where I wasn’t even sure I’d receive a bed) and it was already 7:30 pm when heading out, so it was looking more & more like I would be spending the night on a park bench or even somewhere alongside the road, and yet I was still feeling relatively fit and decided to simply flow onward for as long as my body would smoothly allow …

It is our self-absorbed appetite for the simple joys of life that starves our souls, bringing greater sadness after every petty joy, and greater desperation after every hollow success. In truth, in order to complete our amazing life journey with any measure of success, it is vital that we turn each and every dark tear into a pearl of wisdom – by finding the blessing in every curse – by refusing to strive against the same, and instead using it to empower what we are doing for others … No pain that we suffer and no trial that we experience is ever meaningless. For of we so choose, these trials will always minister to our greater education, to the development of the greater virtues within us – the virtues of humility, resolve, caring, and courage. In truth, all that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it selflessly, builds up our character, purifies our heart, expands our soul, and makes us more tender and charitable. And as such it is through our sorrow and suffering – if we truly choose to go through them, that we will gain the divine education which will allow us to ‘become again as a young child’ – to become again a Child of God.” ~ via Anthon St. Maarten & Orson Whitney
