Day 089l: Deeper into Life … (July 12, 2019)

Suddenly I came out of my thoughts and noticed everything around me again, as though I was seeing it all for the very first time – the catkins on the willows, the lapping of the river on the reed-thronged banks below the bridge’s smoothed-out concrete, the leafy patterns of the shadows resting lightly across the ensuing path. And then I saw myself, walking with the perfect alignment of path & gravity that only comes after ambling along many miles; the easy loose diagonal rhythm of arms swinging in synchronization with legs in a body that felt long and swaying, almost as sinuous as a snake. And so it is whenever you give yourself fully to people or places, they give you yourself right back. The more you humble yourself and come to know them, the more you seed them with an invisible crop of memories and associations that will be waiting for whenever you return in mind or body. Exploring the world with this mindset is one the best ways of exploring one’s own mind, and faithful leaps of long-distance walking (much like bold acts of anonymous service) travels both terrains. Indeed, any views of life or men or even things cannot become broad or wholesome or even remotely accurate by choosing to vegetate in one little corner of one’s own neighborhood. To live fully you must venture forth, deep into unknown landscape and just as deep into the lives of yet known friends.” ~ inspired by Rebecca Solnit & Mark Twain
