Day 085p: Staying smooth before the Storm … (July 08, 2019)

These pictures don’t do the moment justice, and yet a HUGE storm started to loom up behind me at this point in my journey; inspiring me quite convincingly to adjust my pace in a “faster” direction – not hurrying away from it in fear, but rather flowing ahead of it in humility …

By early evening all the sky to the south had darkened and the spare terrain he trod had turned a glowing gold-gray as far as the eye could see. He paused in the road at the top of a rise and looked back. The storm front dominated the distant horizon and its early winds were already cool on his sweating face. He slumped a bit at the sight of it, bleary-eyed and wondering if he would be able to find shelter before its inevitable wrath. Shrouded in the black thunderheads the distant lightning glowed mutely, like welding seen through foundry smoke; as if great repairs were under way at some flawed place in the iron darkness of the heavens.” ~ via Cormac McCarthy

The Storm is ever out there and every one of us must eventually face the Storm. And when it comes (and come it will), pray that it shakes you to your roots and breaks you wide-open. For being broken open by the Storm is your only hope. When we are broken open we get to discover for the first time what is inside us. Some folks go their whole lives never living through the Storm; never getting to see what is inside them after it passes through. Oh, what beauty, what strength, what truth and what love reside within!” ~ via Bryant McGill
