Day 084i: A roiling river of Rio … (July 07, 2019)

Serendipity ladled my Walk with an additional blessing on this day in the form of Rio, an amazing singer-songwriter and powerful social activist who wasn’t a fellow pilgrim at all (at least not in the traditional sense). It turns out that she had just happened to be visiting here, her favorite hostel from pilgrimages past, and only had a few hours left of her stay when I originally arrived. And yet those few hours were enough to have her help to encourage me to stay, as well as to share a few phenomenal conversations with me about ecological activism* (her life’s primary focus) and radical kindness both having a potent role in the dire need for a fresh & alternative system of education for our society’s children. She then graced all the pilgrims present with an amazing (and much too short) concert with her friend Chari before she then gathered up her things and herself disappeared down The Road …

*Yes, I did gently mention that veganism was and remains by far the most powerful (and therefore by far the most important) way that any of us can help save the global environment, and yet I didn’t press that truth once she seemed a bit uncomfortable with the same.
