Day 081q: Arriving at Azqueta … (July 04, 2019)

If we allow ourselves to humbly embrace all our serendipitous encounters and honor all our seemingly random happenstances, we will find ourselves journeying into &/or through wondrous portions of life we never would have experienced otherwise. So it was for me today, walking with Mate to the lovely town of Azqueta – a town I would have almost certainly passed by without pause or much notice had he not been that day’s walking companion…

They are things for which it was impossible to prepare and yet which one spent a lifetime looking back at, trying to accept or interpret or comprehend; things that should never have happened, things that seemed out of place and wrong at the time, but that ultimately became dramatic blessings in disguise. These are the events that ladle life with challenge and surprise and meaning. These encounters – and how we choose to handle them – are what ultimately mold who we choose to become in the end … As such, it is critical to remember that there are no normal instants. Each & every meeting comes to us at the precise time and in the exact way it was meant for us; at the exact Here&Now where it can have the most impact on our lives and all other lives nearby. Of course, none of these encounters has any innate goodness or badness to them – it is only our chosen response thereto that determines their ultimate worth..” ~ via Jhumpa Lahiri, Nadia Scrieva, & Hermann Hesse
