Day 081n: A Citizen of the World … (July 04, 2019)
Thereafter I flowed along the Camino’s primary path through the city and came across a most majestic entrance to another church (San Pedro de la Rua), a church I remembered bot vividly & positively from my Walk through this same city those eleven year’s prior. Drawn almost without alternative up the stairs to its primary foyer, I entered its hallowed halls and once more felt fully at Home in the world. Fittingly, this became the only church on my entire Camino where the volunteers on site allowed me to enter “the World” for my nationality when signing in to the church’s pilgrim-guest book … 🙂
“It is crucial to remember that all human decency is not derived from religion, but rather significantly precedes the same … In truth, it is easy enough to do what religion demands and be friendly towards one;s friends. And yet it is in befriending strangers (and even those who regard themselves as your enemies) where the very best of humanity resides … And so when I say that its You that I like, I am talking about that part of you that knows life to be far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. I am talking about that deeper part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive – Love that conquers hate, Peace that rises triumphant over conflict, and Forgiveness that proves more powerful than greed.” ~ via Christopher Hitchens, Mahatma Gandhi, & Fred Rogers
