Day 078z: Up & in Them … (July 01, 2019)
Not having a clock or watch of any kind on this [pilgrimage, I had gotten used to “reading the skies” to tell what time it was – to judging by how light (or dark) it was outside whether or not it was time to rise and re-commence my walking. Well, unbeknownst to me at the time, there was a street lamp on just down the street from the overflow hostel where I had been offered residence that evening, a lamp that made it look like it was already around 5am when I woke that night at 1:30 … And so it was that I quietly rose (so as to not wake my usually longer-sleeping fellow pilgrims) gathered my belongings and headed outside. And it was only after the door had closed behind me that I realized that it was indeed still effectively the middle of the night – still quite damp & cold and still far too early to begin walking the next leg of my trek. And so it was that I walked around town looking for an impromptu place to sleep a few more hours until dawn – and so it was that I tested all the doorways I passed until I indeed found one that opened (!!!) – and so it was that I enter the long, thickly carpeted, and well-furnitured foyer of a nearby four-star Chambres d’Hotes (!!!) – and so ti was that I was able to bed down far more comfortably than I had in the aforementioned hostel for several hours of fantastically comfortable sleep … 🙂
