Day 078o: Flowing alongside a Friend … (July 01, 2019)
In what we both new was going to be our last day of walking together (Roncevalles was always going to be JM’s last stop), Jean Marc and I easily enjoyed each other’s company today – sometimes walking together and chatting amicably, sometimes walking apart in silence; sometimes walking side by side, sometimes walking with the other just out of view … We didn’t necessarily agree on more than few matters of great importance (the moral mandate for veganism and the futility of voting in an oligarchy, to name but two of those few), and yet we did agree on the matter of most Importance – namely, the innate worth of kindness and the inherent rightness of selfless generosity; both of which Jean Marc showed me in full amounts. Yes, some of the latter came from him being afraid for my safety and some of the former came from his desire for companionship on his walk, and yet far & away JM was a Good Soul on my pilgrimage – one of the handful of “angels” who repeatedly arrived at the perfect time to enable me to fulfill this Mission for Peace …

“The full population of both your beloveds and friends were all once strangers to you. And yet somehow at a particular time, each of them approached from the distance and entered your life. Upon reflection, their arrival seems accidental and contingent, and yet they each made marks upon your being so indelible that your existence in its current form is now unimaginable without them. For these persons, too, we must remain ever grateful.” ~ via John O’Donohue
