Day 077q: Giving the Holy a Home … (June 30, 2019)

For those who have followed this Walk from the beginning – and for those who still remember the same, I had decided to carry three stones for almost the entirety of the Journey; one to place in the three primary cathedrals along the route – the first in the church at Le Pu en Velay, the second in the church here in St. Jean Pied du Port, and the third in the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. As such, it was with great reverence (and not a small amount of emotion) that I lit a candle of gratitude & resolve, that I found a holy niche in the left corner of the left-hand nave of the church’s main chamber, and that I then let the second stone rest therein quite comfortably …

What you encounter, recognize or discover depends to a large degree on the quality of your vector. Many of the ancient cultures practiced careful rituals of approach; an encounter of depth and spirit that was preceded by careful preparation and accompanied by a deep honoring. When we approach with reverence, great things decide to approach us in return. In such moments or more profound life comes readily to the surface and its light awakens the concealed beauty in all things. When we walk on the Earth with according reverence, beauty will decide to trust us and let herself be known. The rushed heart and arrogant mind lack the gentleness and patience to enter that sacred embrace. So it is – if we wish to rediscover the Divine – that we must embrace each instant with staunch calm, inviolate intentions, acute attention, and courageous movement.” ~ inspired by John O’Donohue
