Day 076h: Gratitude for the Giving … (June 29, 2019)

I flowed onward through the mist thereafter – up and Up and UP the Path’s now steep and rocky way. I see a pilgrims’ cairn about half way up the mountain and pause to reverently offer one of the special “Way stones” I have been carrying with me for many previous miles …

The highest expression of Gratitude goes far beyond the traditional ‘mine’ and ‘thine’ and claims instead the truth that all of life is a pure gift, and that the greatest gift of all resides in one’s Giving. In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts I had received, and yet now I realize that gratitude – on a far deeper level – can also be lived as a discipline; a discipline that consciously and repeatedly acknowledges the Truth A) that all I am and all that I have been given has arrived as an unconditional expression of pure Love and B) that my greatest ‘reward’ in life comes not when I receive more in addition to those blessings, but rather when I willingly sacrifice the same for the betterment of another.” ~ inspired by Henri Nouwen
